Sunday Night SLAM Recap: Episode 5

Posted on June 8, 2026

Sunday Night SLAM rolled into Providence with a sold-out crowd, a stacked card, and just enough chaos to remind everyone that in the SWF, momentum can change hands in an instant. The Amica Mutual Pavilion played host to a night that featured dominant tag team performances, a statement win for Big Mama Johnson, and a tense closing confrontation involving The Velvet Empress.

The show opened with The Made Men scoring a decisive victory over Degeneration HEX, controlling the pace and capitalizing once the match broke down into chaos. Dante Vellaro and Bruno Marchetti looked especially sharp, using disciplined teamwork to overwhelm the Jester brothers and establish themselves as a serious force in the tag team division. In a backstage interview, The Made Men made it clear they believe their rise in the division is only just beginning.

Leo Maximus also picked up a win over The Maniac Mechanic after a hard-fought bout that turned when ringside distractions created an opening for Maximus to strike. Later, Ricky Inoki and Leo Anderson earned a standout tag team victory over The Realm Wardens, with Inoki’s technical skill and Anderson’s explosive offense proving to be the difference.

Gideon Oxford stayed unbeaten with a brutal, methodical win over Safari Jackson, and it was the kind of performance that made his power feel less like a strength and more like a warning. Jackson brought the speed and explosiveness you would expect, but Oxford refused to be dragged into that kind of match, shutting down the early aerial attack, grinding him down with a suffocating bearhug, and then catching him in mid-air for the decisive gutbuster slam. It was a clean reminder that Oxford does not need a long match to make an impact; when he gets control, the fight tends to end on his terms.

His manager, Barker Barnabas, was nearly as disruptive as Oxford himself, creating constant distractions from ringside and forcing the referee to split attention at key moments. That interference gave Oxford just enough breathing room to survive Jackson’s comeback attempts, and it fit perfectly with Barnabas’s carnival-barker role: loud, theatrical, and always trying to tilt the odds in his client’s favor. The combination works because Barnabas adds chaos while Oxford supplies the destruction, making the whole act feel even more dangerous.

In the main event, Big Mama Johnson defeated Jessica Shimmer to earn the No. 1 Contendership for the SWF Women’s Championship. Shimmer battled from underneath and showed tremendous grit, but Johnson’s size and power ultimately carried the match. The evening ended with The Velvet Empress confronting Johnson in the ring, adding a new layer of tension to the women’s title picture.

From The Made Men’s cold-blooded statement to Big Mama Johnson’s title breakthrough, SLAM left Providence buzzing and the SWF landscape shaken — and with The Velvet Empress looming over the women’s division, the biggest war may still be to come.
