The Cost of Being the Standard

Wednesday Morning
The camera opens before sunrise.
The city skyline is barely visible through the windows of the Greco Performance Center.
Inside, the building is empty.
No students.
No trainers.
No cameras.
No audience.
Just Adam Greco.
Running.
The rhythmic pounding of his feet echoes through the facility.
4:43 AM.
The digital clock hangs overhead.
Greco finally slows.
Breathing heavily.
Sweat dripping.
The 50 States Championship rests on a nearby chair.
Not displayed.
Not celebrated.
Waiting.
The camera follows him.
Adam stares at the title.
A long silence.
Then—
"You know what nobody tells you about becoming the best?"
He shakes his head.
"They tell you how to get there."
His eyes never leave the championship.
"They never tell you what it costs."
Greco picks up the title.
Not proudly.
Almost thoughtfully.
"I won my first championship at twenty-four."
A small smile.
"I called my father afterward."
The smile fades.
"He didn't answer."
Pause.
"He was working."
Another pause.
"I remember being angry."
Greco laughs softly.
"Imagine that."
"The biggest moment of my life and I'm mad because my father missed the phone call."
He looks down.
"I didn't understand then."
"Now I do."
Greco looks around the empty gym.
"He was working."
"So was I."
The camera slowly circles him.
"That's the thing nobody understands about obsession."
"It doesn't care who you love."
"It doesn't care what day it is."
"It doesn't care if it's Christmas."
"It doesn't care if it's your birthday."
"It only asks one question."
His eyes lock on the camera.
"How much are you willing to give?"
His expression hardens.
"I gave everything."
The championship plate gleams.
"Not most."
"Everything."
The room falls silent.
"Hank..."
A slow exhale.
"That's why you're dangerous."
The audience immediately leans forward.
Because that's not what they expected.
"You're dangerous because you still have things I lost."
The words hit.
"Community."
"Balance."
"Roots."
"Perspective."
The champion nods.
"I watch your interviews."
"I see your family."
"I see your town."
"I see people who love you whether you win or lose."
Greco smiles sadly.
"That's valuable."
More silence.
"More valuable than this."
He taps the title.
For the first time all promo.
Adam looks vulnerable.
Then it vanishes.
Instantly.
"But I made my choice."
The champion straightens.
"And I refuse to apologize for it."
The confidence returns.
Bigger than before.
"Because while everybody else was protecting pieces of themselves..."
"I was sacrificing pieces of myself."
"And sacrifices create advantages."
The camera closes in.
"That advantage is standing in front of you Friday."
NOW the promo turns.
Now Adam becomes dangerous.
Not because he's arrogant.
Because he's committed.
